I am a visual sociologist researching how photography and visual practices shape peace, conflict and polarisation.
I work at the intersection of visual politics, peace and conflict studies, and participatory visual methods.
My research examines how conflict-affected communities build, contest and imagine peace and conflict through photography, and how the arts contribute to conflict transformation, transitional justice and depolarisation.
I work as an independent researcher, a Visiting Senior Research Fellow in Department of War Studies, King's College London and as part of the Faculty at IE University, Madrid
Research Themes
Visual Peace: how photographs and visual practices represent, construct and foster peace.
Conflict Transformation and Depolarisation: how creative practice supports dialogue, repair and reconciliation, and bridges entrenched division after war and mass violence.
Participatory & Visual Methods: the design and ethics of photovoice, creative and arts-based methods, including therapeutic and trauma-informed practice.
Evaluation, Impact and Inclusive Rigour: complexity-aware evaluation of arts, research and peacebuilding programmes, and how inclusion strengthens rigour.
Photography as Social Practice: photography as collaboration and dialogue, and community photography histories.
